Stara Palanka, a Small Village but a Lot of Kafanas
Stara Palanka, a village with roughly 20 homes and about the same number of residents, has 5 kafanas!!! What is more interesting is the fact that all of them are doing great, both in the winter and in the summer. The oldest kafana in Stara Palanka is 'Kod Djele' ('At Djela's') which was opened...

When Cafes Were Nowhere in Sight
In the 19th century, Kragujevac's kafanas were meeting places of social life where theatre plays were played, newspapers started, literary circles formed and people politically agitated. Old kafanas, their names to be more precise, are a special landmark in space, but also in time and history...
Kafanas and Bakery Stores of Užice
Simply said - imagine cities, towns, even the most remote villages without kafanas. A city, big or small, without kafanas is just like a man without a palate sitting in front of the full table of delicacies. An urban giant or a dwarf without the feeling of the scent or taste deprived of the ability to feel the aroma of life. Even those who rarely go into a kafana, those who are not fond of a good beverage, sauerkraut and grilled lamb intestines, or staying late till morning hours, couldn't live without kafanas. The opposite group who wakes up and goes asleep with kafanas, it would be needless to talk about. What's the catch with kafanas' attraction? I think that the answer to that question would ruin the magic and because of the exact reason we shouldn't even raise the question. What is a life without any magic? A mere inhaling and exhaling so predictable in its flatness, people only breathe that way while sleeping.
